When was the last time you bought a CD?

Music CD’s? Are they a thing of the past? Where do you even buy a music CD these days? The Media Literacy students are working on creating their own media in the form of a CD booklet/insert. This got me thinking. Do our students purchase CD’s or is it all online? What about our South Lake parents, are they still buying CD’s or do they just buy their music online? With this in mind, I surveyed the students and only about 4 students out of the 30 have purchased a CD lately. In addition, they purchased their CD’s from Hot Topic, Barnes and Noble, and Radio Shack. What happen to all the music stores? Thus, to adjust the assignment to meet their needs I have decided to show the students how to create a CD booklet using Microsoft Publisher, find images following copyright guidelines, create their own art using Photoshop online, and publish their CD booklet as an electronic magazine using Issuu.  I am excited to see what they produce!

Crystal Cove Field Trip

March 1st, 2010 by · No Comments · Student Life

Several South Lake students representing the school group Greener Tomorrow visited the Crystal Cove Alliance to learn about the effects of acidification on our ocean and the animals that live in the ocean.  Watch their slideshow below.  Crystal Cove is located in Newport Beach between Laguna Beach and Corona del Mar.  There are several cottages that you can rent on the beach in Crystal Cove and there is a restaurant on the beach.  Anybody can visit the beach; however, you will need to pay for parking.  I recommend taking the family down there for food, going on a long walk, exploring the tide pools, and then getting a shake at the Shake Shack on PCH.
